RACKING PERMITS
A racking permit must be obtained from the South Interlake Planning District (SIPD) office to authorize the installation or modification of industrial storage racking systems, such as selective pallet racking. The permit ensures that the racking system complies with the Manitoba Building Code and other applicable safety regulations.
Racking permits are required for:
- Installation of new racking
- Significant modifications to existing racking: increasing the height of racking, changing the layout of racking, boosting load capacity of the racking, etc.
- Relocation or expansion of operation: expanding business operations or moving to a new facility where racking is required.
- Building repurposing: when a business operation changes its use/function (e.g., from storage to distribution).
